My Car

As some have asked me about my car, I now proceed to show you a picture of it....

...there it is. It is a Nissan 240SX. I got it for $100... a real provision of God. God is so good. I love my car... I guess. I like it anyway. It's nice to drive. And I guess it looks pretty cool too ... I just don't have an eye for cars in general.
Now airplanes, they are really cool...

If you can see this, it works

I am trying a new way of posting to this blog by email. Obviously, if you can see this, it works. This is jsut another really cool feature of blogger. I'm not sure how to post titles. Again, if you can see the title, it worked. Hey, let me know if you can see the snow. I'm trying to figure out why it wont show up for me and I think it might be that I use a netscape brower. If ya'll can tell me whether or not you can see the snow then I may be able to fix the problem. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you can't see the snow. Just let me know.

Wisdom Teeth

I got my wisdom teeth out this morning. I tried to post about this last night but for some reason it didnt show up. I had to go to Dallas to get it done so we drove two hours there and two hours back for a twenty minute operation. I didn't want to be put under so the surgon just did a local anesthetic. It didn't hurt much at all but he did an awful lot of pushing and pulling to get my teeth out. He said that I had unusually strong teeth and that I should take it especially easy because of it. Now I am just sitting at my computer resting. Will be for a couple of days now too.

Done

Ah, I am finally done with the semester. Did pretty well too I think. Now I just have to work and get everything ready to move.

But it shouldn't be to bad. I just don't want to leave my comfortable place with friends and family and church.

get Firefox

Hey everybody, those of you who do not have Firefox, that would include Joseph and Julie (at least neither of you are using it to look at my blog), need to get it as it is the best browser ever. Ever. Just click on the link in my favorite links thing and voila. Of course you will want to follow the directions on the page too, but hey, I am not your mother.

Almost done with the semester

Well, I'm almost done with the semester. I have just a few more prjects to do, mainly a 4p. paper to write for Bible. But thats nothing. Of course there are finals too. But they don't scare me. I am a little... perhaps nervous is the right word... about what comes next. I don't really know what to expect for next semester when I start at Moody. I don't even have a place to stay yet. Or that sizeable chunk of cash... I know God has His eye on me and is workin everything behind the scenes and all but its hard sometimes to not be a little worried. I'm not really worried but I guess I could let myself be.
He is good.

Well

Well not a whole lot has happened recently. I got a job at McDonalds and started Wednesday. Got into a minor collision with another vehicle. Don't know who's fault that was but it will probably make my insurance premiums skyrocket. Didn't damage my car at all though so that's good. School's wrapping up and I only have a few more projects left to do. Next week is the last and then we have finals.

ok, time for revision

Ok, after all the comments I received from that last post I guess I aught to post a revision.
I guess what I mean, and what some of the comments showed me, is that my interests are often incompatible or different from those of others so I don't always have a common link with others that would make me interesting to them. I don't mean that I have a self esteem problem or that I think that I am actually boring but just that sometimes I think that some other people may find me boring whether or not they actually do.

I'm boring

Somtimes I think that I'm sort of boring.

today is almost over...

...and tommorow begins in ten minutes.
Everything was great. My speeches were great. Now I have to study for my Bible test tommorow at 8:00am. They are about to shut down the computer labs so I think I will go home and get a few hours sleep before the test. My brain is fuzzy.

So much going on today

  • two speeches to give
  • two papers due (still have to write the two page one)
  • math test to take

II Thess 1

3We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing. 4Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. 5All this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power 10on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you. 11With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. 12We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I was reading this today and just thought I'd include the whole thing here. Verses 5 to 7 really spoke to me. Its great to know that God will be faithful through all our persucutions and trials. Its not in vain! And verse 12 too! Yes! It is my prayer that God would be glorified in me, in my life, and also all other christians. I say like Paul I am th eworst sinner. Its true. Of all the sinners I know, I know the worst things about myself. But God is faithful and is working in me so that He will be glorified in me. He will be faithful and just. It is not in vain!

I want book

I want to read Let the Nations be Glad by John Piper. I started reading that book, but I never finished it because my dad had to return it to whomever he was borrowing it from. It's all about missions and why missions is important and so close to the 'heart' of God.

I forgot Tolkein

I can't believe I forgot J.R.R. Tolkein!

  • The Lord of the Rings trilogy

This is probobly my favorite poem.

The Gods Of The Copybook Headings
RUDYARD KIPLING
(Born December 30, 1865; died January 17, 1936)

As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market-Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace.
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market-Place;
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch.
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch.
They denied that Wishes were horses; they denied that pigs had wings.
So we worshiped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew,
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That all is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four-
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

* * * * *

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man-
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began-
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

Pascal, Lewis, Edwards, Piper

Pascal, Lewis, Edwards, Piper. Four authors.
These four authors all have something in common. They all talk about joy and pleasure and how that is the motivation for every action that a human being makes.
I am a christian hedonist. What does this mean? It means that I live for pleasure. How? By obeying God and living for Him. That is how God designed us to live and that is how I try to live. We can only really follow God if we live for Him and we will only be able to live for God when we realize that we will only find true satisfaction in him. If this sounds strange and perhaps heretical realize that it is not my own idea. It comes from the Bible and is touted by the four authors mentioned above. For instance, I quote Pascal , "All men seek happiness. This is without exception. Whatever different means they employ, they all tend to this end. The cause of some going to war and others avoiding it is the same desire in both attended with different views. This is the motive of every action of every man, even of those who hang themselves." I have just been thinking alot about these ideas and I just wanted to put some of those thoughts here.

My newest post ever

I just finished my project. My project was an HTML based CD of John Piper's sermons and articles. It was great and I hope a lot of people are edified by that. John Piper has an amazing ministry. If anyone wants a copy of the CD just post a comment stating that or email me or just get in touch with me somehow. Anyway I loved working on that project. I stayed up till two am one night working on it. Now I'll have to find something else to do. Maybe I could do a sequel. Naw, maybe not. I have a test in a few minutes and I really ought to study for it. So I will end this post at this point.
I am back.
I have decided that I will continue using this blog even though my English class does not require it anymore.

My Drivers License: episode III

Yes I did it. I now have my drivers license. I was amazed at how lenient the drivers test is. I barely did any driving at all. Now I know why there are so amny bad drivers on the road. The test is so easy that all you have to know is the basics of how to handle the car. Anyway I have my license now and I easily past the test.

My drivers license: episode II

Yes I flunked. No actually I didn't. But I did not pass my drivers test. How, you say, is this possible? Well to make a long story short, or maybe a short story long, the state of Texas does not have enough people working at the DMV (Department of Moter Vehicles I think). I went to get my license but there was only one person doing the driving tests and only one other person at the desk and there was a long line of people and we started at the back of the line and the time slots for taking the drivers test were full for the day, so I ended up standing in line for an hour and a half just to be told that I had to come back another day. Well that other day will have to be next Tuesday because... well, yeah, because Tuesday is the only day that will work. Next Thursday will also work. So I should, hopefully, be getting my license on Tuesday. YES. Postscript: I actually don't care about getting my license except that it will give me the needed mobility. I don't dig cars. I am an airplane nut. Go Cessna.

My drivers license

This afternoon I am planning to go try to get my drivers license. Yeah right! I'm 18, living in Texas, in college, living off campus, I own a car, and I don't have my drivers license? Well I don't. I've lived overseas almost all my life and I have just never had the opportunity to get my license anywhere. So now I'm finally allowed to have a drivers license and now I feel ready to have it. The first time I drove with my permit, I scared myself. I was driving my car which is a Nissan 240sx. If you don't know what that is its sort of like a borderline sports car. It can be a lot to handle. It is especially hard to learn to shift and to start up on hills. But in this first experience of mine there was just to much going on. Also my seat-back became unlached and went back into the full back position which made it that much more difficult. Yeah, but now I've been driving for about a month and I feel ready to go out on my own.

the purpose for our existence...

I have been thinking a lot lately about the purpose for our existence as human beings. Several of my classes have been dealing with this issue and and the issue of vocation as it realates to God's will in our lives. I put here some of my thoughts on this issue.

I beleive that God created the human race in His image for a special purpose: to glorify Him by enjoying Him forever. By finding and following the will of God, we glorify Him to the fullest extent possible, and when in the will of God we will be most satisfied and fulfilled in God. It follows therefore that we will most glorify God when we are most satisfied in Him. I believe that living in God’s will, will maximize our joy in Christ and that being in God’s will is the only safe place to be. Corrie Ten Boom is quoted as saying, “The center of Gods will is our only safety.”
Does living in Gods will mean we will always enjoy what we do? I think that by living in Gods will we will be satisfied in God. This does not mean, though, that we will enjoy our circumstances or what we are doing in the way of work.
I have not fully satisfied myself on this issue so I would welcome any comments.

his very first post ever

Well, this is it. The long anticipated wingman blog. This is, in fact the origional wingman blog, not to be confused with any other non-existent, or unimportant wingman blogs. So if any of you out there have been confused with the identity of wingman blogs, be so no longer. This is the origional.
